Latina Arts and Culture
Latina artists were invited to add their own unique contributions to enhance the overall ambiance of Symposium 2000. On exhibit supporting the theme "A Latina Agenda for the New Millennium" were several beautiful paintings, hand-crafted dolls, and three traditional altars honoring the people, places and objects inspirational to the respective artists. Latina entertainers were on hand to energize attendees through song, story telling and dance.
Dramatically enhancing the impact of the day's events and discussions, Symposium 2000 attendees were reminded of past generations of Latina women through the placement of 11 x 17 black and white photographs throughout the central conference space. The images of Latina faces stood to represent the strength and beauty Latinas are capable of in the face of challenge, which further reinforced the importance of looking towards the future for the positioning of Latinas in society.
